Postcodes covered: L34, L35
If your stairlift in Prescot or the surrounding villages has stopped working, call us. We will pass the job to an independent engineer who covers L34 and L35, who will diagnose the problem and give you a price before starting.
Homes around Prescot
Prescot is one of the oldest towns in the area, and its centre has older terraces and cottages, some with steep or winding stairs. Around it, Whiston, Rainhill and Knowsley Village have a broad mix: Victorian and Edwardian houses, interwar and post-war semis, newer estates, and plenty of bungalows.
Older cottages and terraces with winding stairs often need curved stairlifts, made to measure for the staircase. Semis and newer homes usually have straight stairs and straight lifts. The engineers we work with repair both; see curved stairlift repair for curved lifts.
Common faults
- The lift stops or will not start. Check the key or switch, the charging point, the seat position and the remote. Our guide to a stairlift not working has more.
- Slow travel or stopping halfway. Usually worn batteries. Most lifts use two 12V batteries that typically need replacing every few years; see stairlift battery replacement.
- Beeping or error codes. Some need an engineer. See our stairlift beeping guide.
- Noise or jerky movement. This can point to wear in the drive or rail and should be checked.
Urgent help
Being close to Whiston Hospital, we sometimes hear from families getting a home ready for someone coming out of hospital. If a stairlift has to work by a certain day, or someone is stuck, tell us when you call. Engineers will try to prioritise urgent jobs where they can. See emergency stairlift repair.
Servicing
A service at least once a year, as manufacturers generally recommend, helps prevent breakdowns. See stairlift servicing.
Brands and council lifts
The engineers we work with repair Stannah, Handicare, Acorn, Brooks, Otolift and TK Home Solutions lifts. We are independent and not linked to any manufacturer. If Knowsley Council, St Helens Council (which covers Rainhill), a housing provider or a manufacturer warranty covers your lift, contact them first.
A stairlift that came with the house
Buying or moving into a home that already has a stairlift is quite common. It can be a real help, but it is worth having the lift checked before relying on it, especially if it has not been used for a while.
An engineer can test the batteries, which may have run flat if the lift sat unused, check the safety edges and seatbelt, look at the rail fixings and confirm the lift is working correctly. They can also tell you the make and model, whether parts are still available, and how often it should be serviced.
If you do not need the lift, you can ask about stairlift removal. If you do want to keep it, a check-up now is far better than finding a problem when someone needs to use it.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Whiston and Rainhill?
Yes. We take enquiries from Prescot and Knowsley Village in L34, and from Whiston and Rainhill in L35.
We need a stairlift working before someone comes home from hospital. Can you help?
Tell us the date when you call. Engineers will try to fit urgent jobs in where they can, but availability can vary.
My stairlift makes a grinding noise. Should I keep using it?
It is best to stop using it and get it checked. Grinding or jerky movement can point to wear that gets worse with use.

Yes. The engineers we work with repair curved lifts from the main brands. See curved stairlift repair.
