A stairlift maintenance plan in Liverpool gives you regular servicing and, depending on the plan, help when things go wrong. Our enquiry service connects you with independent local stairlift engineers across Liverpool and Merseyside who offer annual service contracts as well as one-off, pay-as-you-go servicing for most major makes.

When a stairlift is the only way someone can reach their bedroom or bathroom, keeping it in good order matters. A plan can give peace of mind, but it is not right for everyone, so it helps to understand the choices.

Annual contracts vs pay-as-you-go

Annual maintenance planA yearly fee that normally covers a scheduled service and may include some call-outs, labour or parts.People who rely on the lift every day and want predictable costs.
Pay-as-you-go servicingYou book and pay for a service when it is due, and pay for any repairs separately.People with a newer lift, or who use it less often and prefer not to commit.

Our guide to stairlift maintenance contracts looks at the pros and cons in more depth.

What plans usually include

Every provider sets its own terms, so always read the details. Plans commonly include some of the following:

  • One or more scheduled services a year, including safety checks and cleaning of the rail.
  • Checks on the seat belt, safety edges, footrest and controls.
  • Testing the batteries and charging points.
  • Breakdown call-outs, sometimes with labour included.
  • Discounts on parts, or certain parts included.
  • Priority response for people who depend on the lift.

Batteries, remote controls and damage are often treated differently, so ask how they are covered.

What the engineers can help with

  • Setting up a regular stairlift service for straight and curved lifts.
  • Servicing popular makes such as Stannah, Acorn, Handicare and Brooks.
  • Taking on lifts that are out of warranty or where the original supplier no longer services them.
  • Advising when parts such as batteries are wearing out.
  • Repairs if a fault is found during a service.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the lift. Use our enquiry form and include the make if you know it, and when it was last serviced.
  2. We connect you. We pass your enquiry to an independent engineer who covers your area.
  3. Compare the options. The engineer explains their plan and pay-as-you-go prices in writing.
  4. Book the service. If you are happy, they arrange the first visit.

Costs

We do not quote prices, because plans vary a lot between engineers. The cost of a maintenance plan usually depends on:

  • Whether the lift is straight or curved.
  • The make, model and age of the lift, and how easy parts are to get.
  • How many services a year are included.
  • Whether call-outs, labour and parts are covered.
  • How quickly the engineer promises to respond.

If you are disabled or have a long-term illness, GOV.UK says VAT should not be charged on repairs and maintenance of qualifying equipment for your personal or domestic use. Ask the engineer about the declaration form. You can also read about stairlift repair costs.

Questions to ask about a plan

  • How many services a year are included?
  • Are breakdown call-outs and labour covered, and at what times?
  • Which parts are included, and are batteries excluded?
  • How quickly will someone come if the lift stops?
  • Can I cancel, and does the plan renew automatically?

How often should a stairlift be serviced?

Most manufacturers recommend regular servicing, often once a year, though some lifts or heavier use may need more. Check the handbook or ask your engineer. Our guide to how often to service a stairlift explains more.

Keeping your lift in good order between services

There are a few simple, safe things you can do day to day. Keep the stairs and rail clear of clutter, always park the lift on charge, and keep spare batteries in the remote controls. Do not open the lift covers or try to adjust anything yourself. If the lift starts beeping, slows down, makes new noises or stops partway, stop using it and ask an engineer to take a look rather than waiting for the next scheduled service. Keeping a note of when the lift was last serviced, and by whom, also makes things easier for the next engineer and for anyone in the family helping out.

Areas covered

We take enquiries across Liverpool and Merseyside, including Wavertree, Formby, Huyton, Wallasey and Widnes. See our areas we cover page, or local pages for Wallasey and Formby.

Frequently asked questions

Is a stairlift maintenance plan worth it?

It can be if the lift is used every day and a breakdown would leave someone stuck. If the lift is new and still under warranty, or used only occasionally, pay-as-you-go servicing may be enough. Compare what each option includes before deciding.

Can an independent engineer service my lift if it is still under warranty?

Check your warranty terms first. Some manufacturer warranties require servicing by the original supplier during the warranty period. Our guide to stairlift warranties explains what to look for.

Do maintenance plans cover batteries?

Not always. Batteries wear out over time and some plans treat them as a separate cost. Ask the engineer exactly which parts are included.

What happens during a stairlift service?

An engineer will normally check the safety features, seat belt, controls, batteries and charging, clean and inspect the rail, and test the lift along its full travel. They should tell you about anything that needs attention.

Can I get a plan for an older stairlift?

Often, yes, as long as parts are still available for that model. Include the make and approximate age in your enquiry.
