If you need stairlift installation in Liverpool, our enquiry service can connect you with independent local stairlift engineers who supply and fit new and reconditioned lifts across Liverpool and Merseyside. We are not a manufacturer or installer ourselves, and we are not tied to any brand, so you can compare honest options before you decide.
A stairlift is a big decision, often made quickly after a fall, a hospital stay or a new diagnosis. This page explains how the process usually works, what affects the price and what to ask a fitter, so you or the person you care for can feel confident about the next step.
What the engineers can help with
The independent stairlift fitters we work with in Merseyside can usually help with:
- Home surveys to measure the stairs, check the space at the top and bottom and look at any obstacles such as radiators, doors or window sills.
- New straight stairlifts for a single straight flight, which can often be fitted fairly quickly.
- Curved stairlifts for stairs with bends, half-landings or winders, where the rail is made to measure for your staircase.
- Reconditioned stairlifts, which can be a lower-cost choice for straight stairs.
- Features and options such as swivel seats, folding rails, powered footrests and seat belts, explained in plain terms.
- Handover and safety demonstration, so everyone in the household knows how to use the lift, charge it and what to do if it stops.
Straight or curved stairs?
The shape of your staircase is the biggest single factor in what you can have fitted. A straight stairlift runs on a standard rail that is cut to the length of your stairs. A curved stairlift needs a rail designed and built for your exact staircase, which takes longer to make and costs more. If you are not sure which you have, an engineer will tell you at the survey. Our guide to straight vs curved stairlifts goes into more detail.
How it works
- Tell us about your stairs. Use the enquiry form to share your area, the type of staircase and who will be using the lift.
- We pass your enquiry on. We connect you with an independent local stairlift engineer who covers your part of Merseyside.
- Survey and quote. The engineer arranges a visit, measures up and gives you a written quote. Take your time to read it.
- Fitting and handover. If you go ahead, the lift is fitted and the engineer shows you how to use it safely.
You can read more on our how it works page.
Costs
Every staircase is different, so the only reliable price is a written quote after a survey. As a general guide, Age UK Mobility reports that, according to a 2025 Which? survey, new stairlift prices start at around £2,000, and curved stairlifts usually cost more than straight ones. The things that tend to affect the final price include:
- Whether the stairs are straight or curved, and how many bends there are.
- New or reconditioned equipment.
- Extras such as a powered swivel seat, hinged rail or outdoor-rated model.
- Any warranty, servicing or aftercare included in the price.
VAT relief
GOV.UK explains that if you are disabled or have a long-term illness, you should not be charged VAT on products designed or adapted for disabled people, such as stairlifts, when they are for your personal or domestic use. This can also cover installation. You will normally need to confirm your eligibility in writing, and the supplier may give you a form. GOV.UK notes that being older but not disabled, or being temporarily disabled, does not qualify. See our guide to VAT relief on stairlifts, and you may also want to look into the Disabled Facilities Grant.
Questions to ask before you agree
- Is the quote fixed and does it include fitting and VAT where it applies?
- What warranty comes with the lift, and who honours it?
- Is the first service included, and what does servicing cost after that?
- Who do I contact if the lift breaks down?
- Can the lift be removed later, and is there a cost for that?
Never feel rushed. A good fitter will be happy to leave a written quote and give you time to talk it over with family.

Frequently asked questions
How long does stairlift installation take?
A straight stairlift can often be fitted in a few hours once the lift is ready. Curved stairlifts take longer overall because the rail has to be made to measure for your stairs after the survey. Your engineer will give you an idea of timings when they quote.
Do I need any building work for a stairlift?
Usually not. Most stairlift rails are fixed to the stair treads rather than the wall. You will need a plug socket near the top or bottom of the stairs for the charger, and the engineer will tell you at the survey if anything needs moving.
Can I have a stairlift on narrow stairs?
Many modern stairlifts are designed to fold away and suit fairly narrow staircases, but it depends on the width and the space at the top and bottom. A survey is the only way to know for sure.
Are you a stairlift company?
No. We are a Liverpool enquiry service. We pass your enquiry to independent local stairlift engineers, who quote and carry out the work themselves. We are not a manufacturer and are not affiliated with any brand.
Is a reconditioned stairlift safe?
A reconditioned stairlift should have been checked, refurbished and tested before it is fitted. Ask the engineer what work has been done, what warranty is included and whether it suits your staircase. They are most often available for straight stairs.
Request a call-back
Tell us what's wrong and a local stairlift engineer will call you back. No obligation.
