Otolift stairlifts are known for their slim single-rail designs, which are often fitted on curved and narrow staircases. If your Otolift has stopped, is beeping or will not charge, we can put you through to an independent engineer who works on stairlifts across Liverpool and Merseyside.
We are an independent enquiry service. We are not Otolift and have no connection with the company; the name is used only to describe the lifts we help with.
Check warranty and service cover first
If your Otolift is under warranty, or you have a service plan with the supplier, contact them first. The repair may be covered, and outside work could affect your cover.
If your lift came through the council, the council’s provider usually handles repairs while it is under warranty. See our council stairlift repairs guide.
Otolift models
Engineers see models such as:
- Otolift Two – a curved stairlift on a slim rail
- Otolift Modul-Air – a curved stairlift built from modular rail sections
If you are not sure which you have, a photo of the rail and chair helps.
Common faults on Otolift stairlifts
Charging and batteries
Like most modern stairlifts, Otolifts run on batteries that charge at points along the rail. If the lift is left away from a charging point, or the power at the wall is off, the batteries will run down. Batteries also wear out with age. See stairlift battery replacement.
Lift stops or will not start
Safety edges on the footrest and carriage stop the lift when they touch something. Check the stairs for anything in the way. If the lift still will not move, a switch or sensor may need attention.
Beeping or warning signals
Beeps can be simple reminders, such as the lift not charging, or warnings that need an engineer. Our stairlift beeping guide explains the common causes.
Wear on curves
Curved lifts work harder on the bends. Noise or rough travel around a curve should be checked before it becomes a breakdown. Read more about curved stairlift repair.
Remotes
If the lift works from the chair but not from the call-and-send remotes, try new batteries in the remotes first.
Our guide to what to do when a stairlift is not working has the full list of safe checks.
What the engineer checks
- Power at the wall, key switch and charging contacts
- Batteries
- Warning signals and any codes
- Safety edges and seat switches
- Remote controls
- The drive and the rail, including bends
You should receive a clear explanation and a price before any work goes ahead.
Parts availability
Independent engineers can often get common parts such as batteries. Some Otolift parts may only be available through the manufacturer or its dealers, which can affect how quickly a repair can be done. The engineer will tell you honestly what to expect.
Costs
Checkatrade’s Liverpool cost guide puts typical stairlift repairs at about £95 to £162, with an average of around £122. Repairs needing specialist parts can cost more. See our stairlift repair cost guide.
Why curved lifts need a specialist eye
Curved lifts like most Otolifts are made to measure for one staircase. The rail follows every turn, landing and change in angle, and the chair has to tilt and level itself as it travels. That makes them more involved to diagnose than a basic straight lift.
When you call, mention that the lift is curved and, if possible, which model it is. This helps us put you through to an engineer who is used to curved lifts. Noise, jerking or the chair stopping on the same bend are worth reporting early, because small problems on a curve can wear other parts if the lift keeps being used.
If you are thinking about moving to a straight lift or removing the stairlift altogether, see stairlift removal.
Areas
The engineers we work with cover Liverpool and nearby towns, including Allerton, Crosby, Huyton and Wallasey. A regular stairlift service helps keep a curved lift running smoothly.
Frequently asked questions
Are you Otolift?
No. We are an independent enquiry service and are not affiliated with Otolift. We put you in touch with local engineers.
Can an independent engineer repair an Otolift?
Often, yes. Some parts may only come from the manufacturer, and the engineer will explain if that affects your repair.
My Otolift stops on the curve. Why?
It could be something touching a safety edge, low batteries or wear on the bend. Clear the stairs and check charging; if it keeps happening, book an engineer.
Do curved stairlifts need servicing more often?
Manufacturers generally recommend at least a yearly service for domestic stairlifts. Curved lifts have more parts working on the bends, so regular servicing is worth keeping up. See how often to service a stairlift.
